Two cases of hypothyroidism highlight how people need different homeopthic remedies based on their particular symptoms - it needs a tailored approach to treatment.

Lisa used to be energetic but her energy had in recent months got up and gone. She had also noticed her weight increasing and couldn’t work out why. Every time she brushed her hair it seemed it came out in clumps.

She visited her GP and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, her TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was low – she was prescribed a medication and was told she would need to stay on it indefinitely!

After getting home from the pharmacy Lisa read the side effects…anxiety, chest pain, hair loss, mood swings, weight gain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat and seizures.

A friend of hers had been on the medication for years and told her not to worry, it had been ok for her. But Lisa thought there must be another way – something more natural. Her body, with her help, had gotten her into this mess and her body, with her help could surely get her out of it. She found The Hormone Clinic online and booked an online consultation. Lisa completed our intake form and emailed it back, after her consultation - Lisa started taking the remedy that had been posted to her, within a week and a half her energy started to return, her hair was no longer coming out in such large clumps when she brushed. As the weeks went by she saw the kilos drop off and could hardly believe it – she was back! It all happened so gently and naturally. After three months, she no longer needed the Homeopathic remedy. Six months after being diagnosied, her thyroid hormone was again tested by her GP and her levels were in the normal range - Lisa could have told them that without the test, she felt good again.

Homeopathic Remedies for Thyroid Problems

There are quite a few homeopathic remedies that address thyroid complaints, in Lisa's case she was given Iodum (homeopathic iodine) but there are others depending on specific presentations.

The link between iodine and the thyroid gland is well established, therefore, it is no surprise that homeopathic iodine has been used by Homeopaths for many decades. In its original state, iodine can actually cause thyroid pathology, which is why in the very diluted method involved with the preparation of homeopathic medicines, it can instead be used to stimulate the body to address thyroid complaints. This reveals the basis of homeopathy, which is the law “like cures like.” A substance in a minute dose, can cure what a substance in a larger dose can cause.

In Lisa’s case this medicine was chosen because it suited her specific symptoms. However Lisa’s friend who also developed a thyroid complaint, was given a different remedy – Sepia – she had had a baby 6 months prior to developing her thyroid complaint. She also had weight gain, but it was accompanied by marked mood swings, same thyroid complaint, but different symptom presentation – so different remedies needed.
